On the night of February 18, 1952, during one of the worst nor’easters New England has ever experienced, two oil tankers were torn in half. The only hope for the thirty sailors onboard was a tiny lifeboat manned by four Coast Guardsmen—one of them, Richard Livesey, from Fairhaven.
